Scorpions In San Antonio &

Surrounding Communities

If you have every had a scorpion infestation then you know control of these creatures can be frustrating and difficult!  Furthermore, if you have ever felt the sting of a scorpion, you want to make sure you never feel that pain again, right?

Well, you have come to the right place. Witten Pest Control has been providing affordable, quality pest control services including effective scorpion control in San Antonio and surrounding areas since 1948.  As a family owned and operated business, each of our customers and their pest problems matter to us.  We dislike Scorpions just as much as you do and are empathetic to your fears and concerns about scorpions in your home or business.

Scorpions are nocturnal and hide out in the day in areas that you may least likely expect.  If you have scorpions or are in an area prone to scorpions, you want to watch out for areas like laundry piles, boots and shoes, closets, etc. inside and under piles of wood, rocks in mulch and those kinds of areas outside.  Because scorpions are arachnids (closely related to ticks and spiders) and have a tough shell, scorpion control can be difficult especially when you consider that a female scorpion can produce up to 100 babies in a single brood; they are born alive and hop on the back of the mother until they become more mature.

An infestation of scorpions come sometimes point to a larger problem which must be addressed.  Since scorpions are predators and feast upon other insects, controlling a general insect population is an important part of long term scorpion control.  Besides a good chemical control with a long term residual there are other things homeowners and business owners can do to prevent scorpions and prevent a re-infestation.

  • Remove all trash, logs, boards, stones, bricks and other objects from around the structure.
  • Keep grass closely mowed near the structure. Prune bushes and overhanging tree branches away from the structure. Tree branches can give scorpions a path to the roof.
  • Store garbage containers in a frame that keeps them above ground level.
  • Never bring firewood inside the structure unless it is placed directly on the fire.
  • Install weather-stripping around loose-fitting doors and windows.
  • Plug weep holes in stone or brick veneer structures with steel wool, copper mesh, pieces of nylon scouring pad, or small squares of screen wire. (Steel wool will rust when wet, so it should be used only on dark-colored facades.)
  • Use sealant around roof eaves, pipes, and any other cracks into the structure.Keep window screens in good repair. Make sure they fit tightly in the window frame.

Areas Most Prone To Scorpions

If you are in an area surrounded by new construction, you will probably see scorpions sooner than later.  There are also areas in the San Antonio area more susceptible to scorpions due to terrain and soil type. There are a few areas that we actually refer to as "scorpion country" meaning we consistently see prolific populations of scorpions on a regular basis. Those areas are La Vernia, Adkins, Floresville, Boerne, Stone Oak, Timberwood Park and Boerne. That said...scorpions can pop up anywhere and we are here to help.
